Chlorine has been used as a disinfectant for many years. Adding it to our water supply keeps viruses and micro-organisms under control making our water supply safer. Chlorform is one of the by procucts of chloronated water and at a high enough level can produce cancer. On the other side of the ledger we don’t have a problem with Typhoid or other water borne diseases this is due to vaccination and public health inititives and also to making our water safer.   You can read about Typhoid cases in the early 20th century.

Should chlorine be taken out of our public water supply, probably not unless a better technology can be adapted.  But perhaps you should remove the chlorine and other chemicals from your water before you consume it.  This can be done either with a whole house water filter or with point of use filters to remove it from your drinking water and from showers where chlorine can cause dry  skin and hair and even be absorbed into your skin causing acne and other health issues.
